CFP: Medieval Non/Human Contagion (MLA Division on Comparative Studies in Medieval Literature)

The MLA Division on Comparative Studies in Medieval Literature welcomes proposals for the 2016 MLA convention in Austin, Texas:

Medieval Non/Human Contagion

How does the distinction human-nonhuman emerge from medieval representations of illness and death?
Contagion can be used as a valuable pressure point to examine the construction and failure of distinctions between the human and the non human across the Middle Ages. We welcome comparative papers on cross-species contamination, risks and benefits of animal life.
